Bay-bee...My peace is at stake!!!

I am losing sight of what’s most important to me.

  • I fall into hustle mentality, and often feel I need to grind to achieve my online dream.

  • I don’t know when enough is enough and end up working longer than desired hours because there is no clock-out button to push.

  • I put time pressure to get things done as quickly as possible for absolutely no reason.

  • And I lose sight of the big picture for myself, which is to build a business in ease.

  • I allow screens to entertain my children more often than I would like because I am too preoccupied with building this business instead of engaging with them more, which is tough because they are home with me most of the day.

As I continue to building online businesses, I am realizing that I don’t want to build my businesses like many of the online entrepreneurs I see online.

I don’t want to be chasing a dollar and running a business that’s rooted in what I think will make me the most money.

I want to build a business that is rooted in fulfilling my purpose of assisting humanity in ways that evolve and feed our souls.

I want my work to feel like play because I am doing what I love, and sharing my insights with others so they can also learn to live life more fulfilled.

I don’t want to be boxed in to what I can offer by niching way down, like is so commonly suggested. I want my work to evolve as I do.

I want my main focus to be creating the best life I can imagine, documenting that, and helping others do the same.

This is not how we’ve been taught to think about business building

It is taking a huge mental shift, and much persistency to keep reorienting myself to my goal of bringing peace and purpose to this experience, and not falling into prioritizing monetary gain over everything.

I often get lured by the itch to go mainstream, and chase the bag. I often consider what I think people will pay for BEFORE I think about what I would really enjoy doing and/or sharing with others and allowing that to lead my decisions, instead.

If I'm being honest…I have no desire to have lots of employees and overhead or run a big operation.

Money is a Part of the Game of Life

A big part of being a business owner for me, is to be able to fully support myself and my family doing it at some point. So, I get that the money is important, and it must be considered. But I struggle with not making it the primary focus.

I am learning to make fulfilling my purpose the primary focus because I want to grow a business that brings me joy and hardly feels like work at all.

When we prioritize money…

  • Our jobs often end up feeling like hard work

  • We do jobs we don’t love

  • We live lives we have no time to enjoy

  • We feel inadequate and always behind the eightball trying to keep of with all of the demands, and what others are doing. If we were doing what we loved demands would probably feel more like opportunities, and we probably wouldn't care as much about what others were doing.

  • We are often feel in a state of lack because we are unfulfilled in our work, out of alignment, and going against the flow.

If you don’t want this to be you, check out my "Busyness and Overwork Are Not Badges of Honor" post.

Let's Be Frank

When I see women online with multi-million dollar businesses, a part of me becomes very enticed and wants to strive to have that, as well. I see other's success, and I have to catch myself from trying to rush to their benchmarks.

Our situations are usually a lot different than the next person’s. So, it’s negligible to try to do what the next person does, how they do. But I often get caught up, and have to reel myself back in, and remember than I have to walk my own path.

I have to make a conscious effort not to get lured into the glitter of big business

…and then I realize,

that if I’m being honest with myself, I really don’t want to do most of what it takes to run a big business like that, anyway.

Goals

My goal in building my business is to do it in ease, and a mental pillar that I have in doing things this way is the belief that

“what’s for me is for me”

I don’t need to chase anything or anybody. There are people in the world that will be attracted to what I have to offer, no matter how nuanced it may be. What’s meant for me is already mine and will make its way to me if I stay out of the way, and stay true to my calling.

There are people that will want me to help them get to where I am, and all I have to do is provide value to them, and allow them to see inside my mind/how I am thinking about things and doing things in an unconventional, yet replicable way.

Field of dreams

I believe that if we share enough value, people (maybe not all people, but the right people) will find us and want to know how we have created what we’ve created, and will pay for us to teach them.

What I want to do…

I want to prioritize spending time with my husband and children and enjoy our time and make memories more regularly with them.

But instead, I'm preoccupied by the neverending tasks associated with building a business and putting them on the backburner more often than I would like.

I want to be ok with resting and simply not doing anything productive at regular intervals of time.

But instead, I'm always looking for ways to be productive and not "waste time."

I want to manage my time better, and find blocks of time I can commit to work, family, my home, and myself.

But instead, work bleeds into all other areas of life because I haven't established solid boundaries for myself.

I want to shift my mentality around building a business, and be proof that it can be done in joy, ease, and peace with the right mentality, systems, strategies, hacks, etc,

which I plan to share here as I discover and build those for myself.

Prioritizing the Divine Feminine in Business

There needs to be more feminine energy brought to business. More softness and ease, for both women and men entrepreneurs.

Which again, requires a mental shift toward believing that it can be done.

More balance between work and rest, and more aligned purpose outside of monetary gain.

Self-Employment

The whole culture of work needs to shift in so many ways, and one of the big ways this can be done is by people becoming self-employed.

A lot of our ancestors were entrepreneurs. They had skills that benefited others, and they made money offering those skills to others. They ran their own businesses.

Now, we depend on others to give us a check. In turn, they get to tell us what to do and how to do it, even if it’s not to our advantage, and sometimes not even to the company’s advantage.

For example, I talked about this is HERE

We have the capacity to be productive about 3 hours a day, yet the average work day is about 9 hours. But we’re so used to doing things the same way they’ve always been done, that we don’t question it and neither do our employers.

If we were the boss, we could set the rules, and do what is most conducive for ourselves and our businesses without wasting 6+ hours of our day doing FAKE WORK because that’s what’s required.

Then, we’d have time to make a living AND enjoy life outside of work.

The first step to Building a Business Consciously

…is to know your purpose and what you're passionate about.

If you love what you do

Be solid on your purpose for wanting to build the business in the first place, which should be closely connected to your life purpose.

If you are unsure of what your life purpose is in order to guide your business purpose…

here are some ways to start discovering what purpose is…

Ask yourself these BIG QUESTIONS

  • What do I love to do, more than anything else?

  • What are the recurring themes in my life?

  • What are/is the theme of most of the books on my bookshelf?

  • What do I enjoy learning about?

  • What do I love to talk about?

  • What brings me the most joy?

  • If I had six months to live what would I want to be doing?

  • What do I want people to think of when they think of me?

  • What would I be doing if I knew I couldn’t fail?

  • What has been the greatest challenge that I have overcome so far in my life? Could I help other people to overcome that same challenge?

  • What challenge would I love to overcome, and then help others achieve the same?

  • What special gifts/talents do I have?

  • What do people ask me about the most?

  • If I had a superpower that could change the world, what would I change?

  • If I had to take a best guess at my life’s purpose, and just get started with something that excites me, what would it be?

Get more inspiration HERE.

Write down what you discover, and continue to ask these probing questions until you feel you have a better understanding of your purpose.

Once you have some clarity, start thinking about how you can share that purpose with others, and make a living assisting others in this area.

There is no need to try to be super niched in how you assist others if you know your overall purpose for helping people.

You may find that your work evolves, which is fine because we as humans evolve, but there most likely will remain a common theme throughout all the work that you do.

Here are some examples of what your life purpose/theme of your life could be. You may have a strong desire to...

  • Advocate for your strongest beliefs

  • Be at the top of your field

  • Be the truest version of yourself

  • Care for the environment

  • Take care of others

  • Be of service to others

  • Give the world your creative expression

  • Find Joy

  • Leave a legacy

  • Teach others

  • Master the Self, etc.

Once you have a purpose/theme for your life, it will more than likely translate to the work you decide to do if you are working in your purpose.

The happiest balance is to find work that fulfills your purpose and allows you to support yourself and your family adequately.

With the internet, there are so many ways to make a profit from our purpose. This way our work continuously brings us joy, and hardly feels like work at all. May you continue to remember your purpose.

Peace & Blessings,

Shonnea
